Blogmas: 8/12/13: Christmas Films!

You need to watch a Christmas film in order to get in the festive spirit! One film that everybody says is their favourite is ... ELF! You cannot fault this film one little bit! It's a Christmas comedy with a completely unique story. "After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity." This pretty much sums the film up in one! If you haven't seen it, you've missed out... go and watch it!

Another film that you need to watch is 'Christmas With The Kranks'. This film is by far one of my favourites... every year when all the decorations are up and it's all cosy in the house, I sit and watch it, snuggled up on the sofa with a blanket and for some reason, a bag of twiglets! One reason why I like this film is because it symbolises and sums up everyone's Christmas... and not always the good sides of Christmas!
"With their daughter away, her parents decide to skip Christmas altogether until she decides to come home, causing an uproar when they have to celebrate the holidays at the last minute." That sums up this film haha! You really need to watch it to understand it! It's one of the funniest Christmas films I've seen!

If you want to watch more of a traditional festive film, with a little less comedy, then you need to watch 'Miracle on 34th Street'. "A little girl discovers dreams do come true if you really believe. Six-year-old Susan has doubts about childhood's most enduring miracle - Santa Claus. Her mother told her the "secret" about Santa a long time ago, so Susan doesn't expect to receive the most important gifts on her Christmas list. But after meeting a special department store Santa who's convinced he's the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all - something to believe in." It's such a nice heart warming film :)

There are so many other films I could list but it would take me forever!

Blogmas: 7/12/13: Christmas Decorations

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without decorations, and today we have started to put some up... and we will be putting the rest up tomorrow and throughout the week :)
These are just a few pictures of my decorations so far :) We have had to have an artificial tree this year, as I have just recently got two kittens, so we didn't want the needles from a real tree hurting them... and thank god we did get a fake tree because within a minute of putting the tree up, they're already climbing in it and demolishing it hahaah!

Blogmas: 6/12/13: How to make your own stockings!

A good way of saving money at Christmas time is by making your own decorations and presents, and the great thing about this is, the things you make don't have to look that good and perfect, because you can always use the excuse of "It looks homemade". Also I think it looks nice when it's not perfect and a bit shabby because it has your own personal touch and is also very unique!

I have decided to make a stocking and I made it as I went along... I had no idea how to make it and hadn't practised it before hand! So that's why it doesn't look perfect, but it's what makes it look unique ;)

It is pretty simple to make, but it's much easier if you have a sewing machine.

  • Material of your choice (I used scrap material and also old clothes)
  • ribbon
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • a pattern to follow
  • pins
Step 1/2:
Firstly I found a simple pattern that I found on google images and printed it out. I then cut this out and pinned it to my chosen material, then cut around the pattern.

Step 3:
Then I sewed on any decoration that I wanted on it.

 Step 4:
Then I cut a separate of material to go along the top of the stocking. It needs to be the same length as the stocking at the top and then about 10cm wide.
Step 5:
Sew this onto the top rim of the stocking. You will need to do two of these on each separate main piece of fabric for the stockings.

 Step 6:
Then pin the separate main pieces together, making sure that the right side out is facing in, to hide the stitching, and sew together using a basic running stitch. Also sew your piece of ribbon at the top, in the corner as you do this process.

Then turn it back into the right side out... and your finished!
Now... mine turned out a bit pointy, but I think that adds to the home, traditional Christmas feel to it (I hope)!
Overall, this took about 40 mins to an hour, so it's fairly easy to do, although I probably should of spent a bit more time on it, to make them look a bit less pointy and more presentable haha!

I hope you enjoy making this, and I also hope my step by step wasn't too brief and confusing... it's pretty self explanatory anyway! :)

Blogmas: 5/12/13: My Traditional Christmas

One thing I love about Christmas is the little family 'traditions' we have. We don't follow these traditions religiously but we try to as much as possible!
An example of one of our traditions is when we put up the decorations, we always have to have Christmas songs playing in the background, and I can guess that pretty much everyone does that, but I still think it's quite a nice 'tradition to have!
Also on Christmas eve, me and my family usually visit my great aunt and uncle, as this is nearly the only time we get to see them!
Then in the evening, I watch a few Christmas films and programmes in the kitchen as I help prepare the vegetables for the Christmas dinner the next day. My sister and I also get given new pyjamas to wear, but by the end of the month, we can never find matching pyjamas! We also put down some brandy, mince pies and carrots for father Christmas and his reindeer's (I know I'm a bit old but it will ruin the Christmas feeling if I don't do it haha).

On Christmas day we wake up in the morning (usually me first) and we get sacks each filled with loads of little presents, we open them first and then when we go downstairs we open our main presents. We then get dressed and have breakfast (I always have fresh filtered coffee and a croissant) and my nan comes round my house. Then we go to my grandmas and open the presents she got us. After that we go back home and wait for my auntie and cousin to come. During this time we just do something with the presents we get.

When my auntie and cousin arrive, we open each others presents and then we have our Christmas dinner. After our dinner we play a few board games or Buzz and then have our pudding. After that we start to get comfy in front of the TV as the Christmas specials are about to come on. The tin of roses and quality streets come out and cheese balls and much much more.... and then we finish the day with TV and cuddles :)

So that's my traditional Christmas... I'm sure it's pretty similar to some other people's Christmas though haha!

Blogmas: 2/12/13: Christmas/Winter Favourites At The Moment

I haven't really purchased a lot of Christmas things yet, but I have got some winter things that I have had for some time now, and they are things that you can pretty much have all year round, but they are essentials for winter now!

Firstly, during the winter months and Christmas I like to have a nice smelling house. As it is getting colder it is getting very hard to open windows to get rid of any harsh smells, because it then makes the house too cold. So instead I use scented candles, I have seen a lot of people hyping about Yankee candles, however I think that they are a bit over priced, but don't get me wrong I do love the smell of some of them!

I use one that my sister brought back from Chirk in Wales, it's part of a candle company called 'Our Own Candle Company'.

I use one of the mason jar ones which are only £3.99, it is the Cucumber Melon one and you can probably already tell by the name that it smells refreshing and sweet, but not too overpowering. The candle itself burns for up to 100 hours, but you only usually need to burn it for an hour or two in one sitting. This is enough time for the scent to linger around the house and kill all of the bad smells.

Secondly, some lounging trousers or pyjama bottoms are definitely a must have! They do some nice ones in New Look and Primark.

I wear some from Primark, which are actually my mums so they're a few sizes too big for me, but I think that when they are oversized they are more cosy and comfortable. I not sure on the price of them but they were roughly £8.

They are so soft and even if you wear and wash them a lot, the softness never goes! They are so nice to lounge about in, especially considering that most of the winter you are going to want to be snuggled up inside, watching Christmas films!

Lastly, as the wind gets bitter and the temperature gets colder your skin a lips will start to get chapped and dry. So to keep them from being too bad I use Vaseline, I use the Aloe Vera one but I like any scent. Vaseline is cheap and lasts for ages, it's a must have all year round, and also it's so small and therefore easy to fit in your purse, pocket or bag. You can get Vaseline in any supermarket or drug store.

These are just a few things that I think are a must have! I could go on forever with what I like at the moment. I am thinking about doing a post about beauty products that I think are essential for winter, so that one will include much more!

Blogmas: 1/12/13: Advent Calenders

One main thing that is exciting in the running up to Christmas is the advent calenders. The thought of waking up to a piece of chocolate shaped like a cracker or snowman, makes my mouth water!
I usually buy the cheap 'kids' ones, as I think the chocolate tastes nicer, as opposed to the branded ones, such as; Cadbury or Thorntons.

One thing that I really want, but it's too expensive for me to have is the Benefit advent calender. Each day includes one small version of Benefit make up! The whole advent calender itself is £50, but the actual make up inside it would have been more money than that, so I think that if you are willing to pay that much then it is a good idea! You can buy it for yourself of even a early present for someone!

Blogmas 2013!

So as this is my first blog I have ever had, I've decided that I am going to be doing blogmas. I haven't been posting much recently as I have had loads of school work, so If I do a post everyday for blogmas, I'm sure that it will make up for it!
I can't guarantee that all the posts will but up on the right day, but I am going to make sure that either way I have done 31 posts but the new year!
Most/all of the posts that I have planned are Christmas related, so it will definitely get you in the festive spirit :)

One Direction Where We Are Book Signing

On Monday the 18th of November my dreams came true... I MET ONE DIRECTION!!!!!
As we turned up at Alexandra Palace where the signing was, there was a big queue of people! It still hadn't really hit me that I was actually meeting them!

As we went inside to queue, we got given a copy of the book and a free sample of the perfume. One Direction was blasting through the speakers and every adult there looked like they were in hell being tortured!

The queue started to move really quickly and before we knew it we were outside the room that they were in. There was a camera crew filming the whole event for One Direction's YouTube and also the news, and I completely embarrassed myself in front of the camera, so hopefully they cut my bit out haha :)

As we approached them it was a complete blur from there!
We had to move really quickly so there wasn't any time to take good pictures and properly talk to them... but I am not complaining, I am one of the few people who can say that they have met One Direction! Oh and also I stood next to Paul hahah :D

They were all so friendly and you could tell that they wanted to spend longer with us! They all said hello to me and looked me in the eyes!!! AND OMG THEIR EYES ARE SO SPARKLY AND DEEP! That's not even an exaggeration!

As I got to the end, Harry passed me the book and said 'Hello and nice to meet you'!
They were all so happy and you could tell that they really appreciate all that we do for them!

It was a great evening and I am going to treasure it forever, and I hope that anyone who wants to meet them, does meet them eventually because it is the best feeling ever!

BBC Radio1 Teen Awards 2013 || 3rd Of November

On the 3rd of November I went to the Teen Awards at Wembley arena. These awards are based around teenagers that have done remarkable things in their lives! Lots of teenagers were nominated, however they were narrowed down to three amazing teenagers.
Find Out their stories here: They truly are incredible people and I could never imagine myself doing what they have done!

On this day I woke up ridiculously early because I was sooo exited, and as soon as I got out of bed, I put on Radio1 (as I always do), and that is when the excitement really kicked in!!!
I had a shower straight away and got dressed.

I wore an outfit that looked very 'rock chic' (as I said in my 'Oh Crepe' t-shirt blog post).
This is what I wore:

A small, simple black skirt:
Under the skirt I wore some black tights

Then tucked into the skirt was my 'Oh Crepe' t-shirt:

Then over the top of all of this I wore a black leather jacket, however this jacket is quite old so it's not in the shops anymore, but you can buy similar ones that are just as good. It was roughly £44, but I'm only basing that price on recent leather jackets that are being sold.

Then I wore a thin cotton scarf over the top, which isn't in shops anymore, but there are still some in the same styles and they are roughly £6.99.

And then I wore some boot/heels, which again are quite old so no longer in shops, but there are some very similar ones.

Then once I was ready I got the tube to Wembley park station. We got there at about 11:30/11:45am, and had some lunch before the doors opened at 12pm.

When we went into the arena me and my friend Sophie went to our seats and straight away we were amazed at how good our seats were (Level 1/S6/Row /seats 45 46). We had such a great view of the stage and as we sat down the DJ came out, as it started in 2 hours time! The arena started to fill up and it got louder and louder!

A great thing about this event was that it was very cheap overall and only 14-17 year olds were allowed to go, so the crowd were even louder and excitable then usual. Tickets were only £10 and the merchandise was the cheapest I had ever see. T-shirts were only £10 and a 'festival style' wristband was £3.
The thing I was most excited about was seeing Nick Grimshaw!!! I am obsessed with him! Not only did I see him on stage but he stood right in front of us :D He is even more amazing and crazy in real life and a very genuine person! His co-host Rita Ora even looked straight at me!

I saw loads of different performers and celebrities... even more then I expected, which was an extra surprise and bonus! I was also very, very happy to see Finn and Jack Harris (JacksGap) and Zoe Sugg (Zoella), who are amazing YouTubers that I watch every single day! I was so happy that Zoe won the best vlogger as well, she definitely deserves it... she is my idol!
To see all of the performances and photos, visit the BBC Radio1 website >>

Overall, it was a great day and I would definitely go next year, especially considering it's my last year I can go... so I better make the most of it!!!
I would recommend anyone who is aged 14-17 years old, to go next year, even if you are not too keen on the line-up because it is a great day overall and every performer is amazing!
